Aberdeen Golf Courses Rise In New Scottish Top 100 Rankings
4 November 2015
The 2015/16 list of Scotland's Top 100 Golf Courses make good reading for our neighbouring eight courses proving once again that Aberdeen is one of Scotland's premier golf desinations.
Topping the list of northeast golf courses in 9th spot was the much acclaimed Balgownie Links of Royal Aberdeen, host of the 2014 Scottish Open. As the sixth oldest golf club in the world the history of Royal Aberdeen is matched by the world class golf course which cuts through a valley of dunes making what many describe as the best front nine in links golf.
Next up and climbing inside the top 10 for the first time since it opened back in 2012, our closest neighbour Trump International Golf Links climbs three spots to No. 10. The panellists at Top 100 Golf Courses note that as the course continues to mature you can expect it to see it establish itself well inside the Top 10 in years to come.
Cruden Bay follows closely behind in 11th place after recent alternations to their 9th & 10th holes. Cruden Bay’s spectacular setting and troublesome blind shots always split opinion with golfers and panellists alike but remains one of the most enjoyable tests of golf anywhere in the world.
The modest ranking given to Murcar Golf Links was perhaps the surpise given its recently staging of the inaugural Paul Lawrie Matchplay this summer. While climbing an impressive five places to 40th spot many would argue Murcar remains one of Scotland and Aberdeen’s hidden gems.
Talking of hidden gems Fraserburgh Golf Club’s dizzy ranking of 55 might not entice you to play the traditional links course 40 minutes north of Trump International but more fool you. With golf dating as far back as 1777 be sure to include Fraserburgh on your Aberdeen golf itinerary, you won’t be left disappointed.
One of the biggest jumps in the Scottish Top 100 Courses rankings went to our region’s own Peterhead Golf Club catapulting twenty-three places to 67th. Located just a 15 minute drive from Cruden Bay this old links golf course has been brought back to life after the recent appointment of head greenkeeper Neil Medcalf.
If you’re planning a golf trip to Aberdeen base yourself in the heart of the region’s best golf courses at our recently refurbished 20 bedroom hotel just two minutes from Trump International. For more information or to book email: golf@whitehorseinn.co.uk.
